Pairing: Linzen (Lin and Tenzin) and Pemzin (Pema and Tenzin)
Summary: Pema confesses her love for Tenzin, stealing his heart away from his childhood sweetheart, Lin Bei Fong
“Come on Pema. You can do this.” Pema muttered to herself, staring in the mirror. She sighed and laid her head down on the counter. Standing up she turned away from the mirror and put on her clothes. She ran downstairs and grabbed a piece of toast that was lying on a plate on the kitchen table. Her parents tried to get her attention, but she ignored them knowing that if she spoke to anybody, she might loose her nerve and she couldn’t let that happen.
Pema ran outside and kept running until she got to the park where she knew Tenzin would be. Tenzin and that girl were sitting by the fountain. She was in his arms. It disgusted her. She knew that he belonged with her not that gross looking, metal-bending, soon to be police chief, Lin.
Tenzin saw Pema and waved, like he always did. She sighed, knowing that if something went wrong today, their friendship would be gone for good. And she had worked so hard to build it thinking that it would be enough to just be friends with him. She was wrong. Dead wrong. In fact it was the complete opposite of enough. It dug holes in her, being so close to him all the time, but not being close enough to be with him. No, instead he was with her. Lin Bei Fong. They had been dating forever, and Pema had just found out that Tenzin was thinking about proposing to her soon.
That was really what drove her to do this. She knew that she couldn’t just stand idely by and watch the love of her life get married to another girl. So what if he was 16 years older than her. She didn’t care, she knew that Tenzin was her soul mate, and she would not let Lin Bei Fong get in her way of that.
Pema put on her big “friendly” smile that she saved only for Tenzin and started to walk toward him. 16 years? Hah. Who cares? That’s nothing. When two people are as right for each other as Tenzin and me, age is but a number. She thought to herself, trying to push away the nerves that threatened to make her turn around and go home right then.
Finally, Pema reached the spot where Tenzin and Lin were sitting. Tenzin straightened up and removed his arms from Lin’s shoulders and Pema failed to supress her grin. Lucky for her, both Lin and Tenzin just assumed that it was the same type of grin Pema always had whenever she was around Tenzin.
